About the estate

Aline is an all round sporting estate offering a variety of fieldsports and accommodation in a staggeringly beautiful setting. Situated on the boundary of Lewis and Harris in the Outer Hebrides, Aline covers 7,500 acres of hills, moors and lochs with additional sporting rights over adjacent land as well. The lodge and cottages sit right next to the sea, looking out over Loch Seaforth and the glens beyond, all the way down to the Isle of Skye. Due to its wildness and beauty, the area is part of a Scottish National Scenic Area.

Accommodation is offered for up to ten guests in Aline Lodge, four guests in Tarbert Cottage and two guests in Seaforth Cottage. Dogs are welcome at the estate by prior arrangement. There’s even a sauna complex by the sea to make your stay the ultimate relaxing Hebridean retreat!

Sporting

Aline has a variety of sport: stalking, walked-up grouse, driven woodcock, duck flighting, and salmon and sea trout fishing. To aide your sporting experience, the estate has a fulltime gamekeeper, boats on both the sea and freshwater lochs, boathouse, and dogs for walked up shooting.

The estate includes several miles of sea coast, including Seaforth Island, plus several miles of shoreline on Loch Langabhat, one of the most prolific salmon fisheries in the Hebrides.

Sporting activities are available to all guests. See our page on Sporting Opportunities for more information.

Nearby towns

Stornoway town centre can be reached in just over half an hour; and Tarbert in around 15 minutes. There are shops, delis and local producers where you can stock up on ingredients to rustle up something hearty at the lodge or in the cottages. There are also lots of restaurants to choose from if you fancy eating out for lunch or evening meal.

Beaches

The superb Luskentyre beach in Harris is one of the Hebrides’s finest summer attractions and is only a half-hour drive away. There are plenty of beaches off the beaten track to explore too. We find the beaches that are most tucked away are often the most beautiful, we’ll let you discover them for yourself! The Hebrides’ beaches are the ideal place for a picnic or swim in the summer.

Hiking

Tenants of the cottages are encouraged to enjoy the many walks covering both Aline and the surrounding territory. Many can be reached easily on foot. The nearby Mount Clisham, the tallest mountain in the Hebrides, makes for a challenging hike. We recommend visiting walkhighlands.co.uk for inspiration.
