Sporting opportunities
What we offer
Stalking
Red deer stalking is available on the estate and on Glen Bhiogadail and Glen Scaladale. Due to the traditional nature of the stalking offered at Aline, the terrain is often hilly and steep-going in parts. The rugged Hebridean scenery with all its hills, lochs and ridges make for a challenging but incredibly rewarding experience.
The estate takes approximately 10 – 15 stags off Aline and 20 from the Glens during the main stalking period which is September and early October. Hind stalking begins end of October.
While there is an element of tailoring stalking to individuals, a certain level of fitness is required; the ground is steep, uneven and access to the starting point of the stalk is usually taken on foot. There is the opportunity to host a rifle a day.
Shooting
-
Grouse
Walked-up grouse shooting over pointers is available in September at Aline. While in recent years we have seen a downturn in the number of grouse across the Island, the walked-up shooting offers an exciting prospect to shoot a brace. The best areas to spot grouse are the moorlands along Loch Seaforth and Loch Langabhat.
-
Duck
Duck shooting on our flight ponds can be exciting in the evening with good winds and occasionally early in the season geese fly over as well. There is opportunity to shoot both should the weather conditions and bird numbers be suitable.
-
Snipe
Depending on numbers, snipe shooting may be available from late September onwards. Snipe will generally be found by streams, ponds and similar wet areas scattered throughout the moorland.
-
Woodcock
Woodcock shooting walked up and over pointers is available. The woodcock are wild birds that migrate to Lewis and Harris in the winter months to enjoy its comparatively mild climate. Each bird often only remains on the island for a few weeks a year. The season runs from mid-November to end of January.
Fishing
During your stay on Aline Estate, both freshwater and sea fishing is available.
Loch Langabhat provides salmon, brown trout, ferox and arctic char. Fishing is largely by boat although the estate also fishes one bank of the River Langdale. It is also possible to fish Langabhat from the shoreline within the estate.
The Tiorsdam system consists of:
The River Kintarvie with several productive pools and a loch which offers exciting salmon and sea trout fishing from July onwards.
The picturesque River Scaladale which offers excellent sea trout fishing in spate conditions.
The rarely fished River Vigidale for salmon and trout; this river runs through a secluded North Harris village near The Lodge.
There are also numerous little hill lochs which offer a choice between a large trout (up to 4lbs) or a plethora of smaller fish - ideal for a day out with the children.

“We had the best week at Aline with family and friends. Stalking with a guide was incredible fun and the children loved taking the boat out fishing. A perfect home away from home”
